Last night, in recognition of NAIDOC Week, the Colin Biggers & Paisley Foundation was proud to sponsor Hearts for Arts Law's fundraiser screening of
We Don't Need a Map, a documentary which explores the meaning of the Southern Cross constellation, the significance it holds for Aboriginal people and its appropriation in Australian culture.
The event was opened by the Arts Law Centre of Australia's Chief Executive Officer, Robyn Ayres, with guests welcomed to Country by Ray Davison of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council.
Following the film, the packed-out cinema heard from producer, Brendan Fletcher, and cast member, Les Rice, in a thought-provoking Q&A facilitated by Colin Biggers & Paisley's Head of Pro Bono and Responsible Business, Tamara Sims.
Funds raised from the evening will be donated directly to the Arts Law Centre of Australia - one of the Colin Biggers & Paisley Foundation's key community partners. Arts Law's Artists in the Black program directly aligns with the Foundation's focus to promote and protect the legal and cultural rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Over the past few years Colin Biggers & Paisley has partnered with Arts Law by undertaking pro bono legal work and fundraising more than $120,000 for the Centre through a range of initiatives, including challenging treks throughout the Northern Territory.
The Heart's for Arts Law Committee was established in 2013 and is made up of young professionals who work to increase support and create fundraising opportunities for the Arts Law Centre of Australia. You can learn more about their work
