At Caxton's 40th anniversary celebration dinner on Saturday 8th October in Brisbane, senior associate Stuart Unwin was inducted into its Hall of Fame.
Caxton Legal Centre provides free legal advice, social work services, information and referrals to Queenslanders who are on a low income or face other disadvantage. The Hall of Fame award, which was presented by Chief Justice Catherine Holmes, recognises Caxton's "most outstanding and tireless volunteers".
Stuart has been a volunteer for Caxton for over 16 years, advising its clients on civil law matters, including motor vehicle accidents, debt, consumer and neighbour disputes, and administrative law. Caxton's staff lawyers who nominated Stuart for the Hall of Fame felt that he had contributed significantly to the achievement of the Centre's mission and demonstrated a long-term commitment to the Centre.
In particular, they said: "Stuart's advice is near perfect every time, the written record is wholly accurate, detailed, comprehensive and helpful." They also noted his ability to explain the relevant law in language the clients understand, his graciousness, and his generosity to students. "Stuart and his ilk are the backbone of this organisation."
Daniel Creasey, Partner Pro Bono and Head of Responsible Business, is delighted with Stuart's nomination: "It's great to see Stuart's tireless work recognised in this way and we congratulate him on this wonderful achievement."
Stuart Unwin joined Colin Biggers & Paisley's insurance team in Brisbane in mid-2016. He has experience working in insurance law, personal injuries law, dispute resolution and civil litigation.
